Early this year the pro debut of Martin Corney (0-0) was announced for Fight Club Rush 15 and now his opponent has been announced: Denmark's Sherwan Khalil (1-0)!
Training under Swedish MMA pioneer Omar Bouiche at Pancrase Gym, Corney has been a hot prospect for several years. He holds early amateur wins over FCR alumns Dimitris Dimitriadis and Eladio Bravo, setting the stage for the brilliance to come.
Corney made his FCR debut against three time Swedish boxing champion Anton Hellström at FCR 12, dominating the fight en route to a quick round one submission finish.
After that Corney filled in on short notice at FCR 13, facing Muay Thai striker Jaffar Yosufi. Corney put on a smart, measured performance, securing a clear-cut unanimous decision win.
In his latest outing Corney faced upstart prospect Anton Ringvall at FCR 14. Corney looked better than ever, lighting Ringvall up on the feet, winning via first round knockout in a sensational performance. Following that win, coach Bouiche gave the green light for Corneys pro debut.
Denmarks Khalil is a hardened fighter known for his sharp striking and vicious kicks. He trains at Arte Suave alongside the likes of FCR fighter Frederik Skov Strauss and Mack Promanee.
Throughout his amateur career Khalil has scored impressive T/KO finishes, such as his knockout över Norwegian Hashim Sharaf Shaeaf at Cage Warriors Academy Denmark.
Khalil made his pro debut against Ulrich Agbessi in May of last year, winning a unanimous decision after three full rounds.
Corney vs Khalil sets the stage for how internesting the Nordic lightweight division will be over the coming years.
