Once more MMA fans in Sweden and watching around the world on UFC Fight Pass have a treat in store. FCR officials recently announced a welterweight war that will pit Christian Stigenberg (2-1) against Theodor "Simba" Berggren (2-0).
Both fighters are very experienced on the amateur stage and the winner will surely emerge as one of the most promising welterweights in Sweden.
After having represented the Swedish national team in amateur MMA Stigenberg made his pro debut at FCR 8 against local favourite Alexander Lindgren. The fight was wild an ended almost as soon as it had started with Stigenberg emerging victorious via first round knockout.
Following that performance Stigenberg welcomed Christopher Bajo, Swedish national Muay Thai champion, to MMA. Stigenberg took an early lead and never eased on the pressure, securing a clear-cut unanimous decision win.
Stigenberg would end up getting his first pro defeat in his last outing, losing a unanimous decision to Finn Niko Skonbäck after three hard-fought rounds.
Berggren showed promise as an amateur with solid wins over good competition and a gutsy performance in a decision loss to pro powerhouse Rahmads Stromanis.
"Simba" really broke out in his pro debut at FCR 10, steamrolling Tobias Wallberg with a TKO win at just 1:36 in the first round. Berggren followed up with an equally impressive yet even quicker win over Ebrima Faal at FCR 11, winning via rear naked choke less than a minute into the first round.
Regardless of who emerges victorious at FCR 12 there will be a new contender at Swedish welterweight.
