While much of the fight card for Fight Club Rush 15 hasn't yet been announced, Liam Pitts, one of the hottest prospects in Sweden, was recently announced to return in an amateur bout at the next FCR event. Now his opponent has been revealed: Nova MMA's David Hedlund!
Fight Club Rush 15 is set to go down on February 25th at Strawberry Fields in Solna, Stockholm. The co-main event will see featherweight favourites Fernando Flores and Alexander Lööf collide, the main event has not yet been revealed.
Pitts may have been born into a family that found success in music and entertainment, but he found a different route in life, falling in love with combat sports. He won the Junior Swedish national championships in wrestling and began training MMA at the world-renowned Allstars Training Center in Stockholm.
In February of last year Pitts made his amateur MMA at FCR 11 debut against Halmstad Kampsports Noah Persson, winning via unanimous decision after three hard fought rounds. Pitt proved that is more than a TV personality, but a true MMA prospect to keep an eye on.
Hardened FCR fans will remember Eskilstunas Hedlund from FCR's third and fifth events. He lost a unanimous decision to to Shoeb Akrami in his promotional debut, but defeated Awat Kohzadi via submission in his subsequent bout in FCR.
Hedlund is one of the more underrated amateur fighters in Sweden, who has faced many of the best in the lighter weight classes. He holds a victory in shootfighting over "The Underdog King" Basir Safdari. Hedlund has also battled FCR standouts like European amateur MMA champion Amir Malekpour as well as Swedish Champion Jonny Touma.
While Hedlund may have come up short in those outings, his heart and determination cannot be questioned.
Many on the Swedish MMA scene have high hopes for Pitts, who has the opportunity to crossover to the mainstream with his MMA success. First though he must get through what will likely be his toughest test to date, the tough as nails Hedlund.
Don't miss this must-see amateur match up at FCR!
